Ed, that is the point many people are trying to make; you say sponsors will not support stations with a bad rep. Th thing is XM is not corporate sponsored, and people (IE - O & A) ar suspended for excersising their first amendment rights, and by wich they were suspended for 30 days! X is sponsored by the consumer, and i dont pay 40 dollars a quarter to have an xL channel censored. Another issue is the fact that people are warde every break with a seeper stating that XM 202 is a xL channel and does contain swearing, and one may block the channel if they choose. Another idea that I had, is there are 200 and some change channels on XM, if you dont like what on 202 or whatever, change it, there is another 200 some channels! See ya!

The firings aren't silencing free speech at all. Radio stations are private companies who can hire and fire whom they wish. It is their right. It is also the right of individuals to protest and boycott companies if they feel they are being unethical. You might not think what they said is offensive enough ( I don't ); but the radio business is about reputation. If a station has a bad reputation, sponsors won't want their commercials airing on that station (its an implicit statement of support for the station). To appease their sponsors, they fire the offending talent.
